The brick building that houses our Fogelsville Financial Center has a storied history having occupied many businesses in its lifetime, but none as famous as the Shankweiler’s Hotel and Restaurant.
Opened in 1934, the Hotel was known for its Fried Chicken and Waffles and played host to various influential socialites and politicians of the time. The Hotel remained in operation until 1993 and in 2001, was determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places by the PA State Historic Preservation Office. For nearly a century, the brick has stood resolute on the corner. So too has First Commonwealth stood as a cornerstone of financial wellness in the community.
